Living with a partner with diabetes inevitably puts some responsibilities on you. Many women already know how hard it is to get any man to take good care of his health. We have to remind them of their doctor appointments. We have to make those doctor appointments. We have to tell them to stop drinking five beers a night and work in a vegetable from time to time. Now, when you have a partner with a condition that he has to manage like diabetes, your work doubles. A man can live a long and happy life as a diabetic if he manages it properly. And, since you hope to have him by your side for a long time, you may want to help him manage it. Sometimes it will be a struggle. Here is a look at what it’s like helping your partner manage his diabetes.

Learning the terminology

You have to learn almost as much about diabetes as your diabetic partner knows. You have learn, for example, that hyperglycemia=high blood sugar, and hypoglycemia=low blood sugar. When your partner has high blood sugar, he needs insulin, and when he has low blow sugar, he needs sugar.
