(Chicago Sun Times) — A Harvey Park District commissioner abruptly quit during her first board meeting Thursday night after the board voted to reinstate two workers who are related to members of the board.  Annette Turner, who was elected in April and sworn in Thursday, said she was shocked and ashamed that the board voted to rehire Commissioner Barbara Moore’s grandson and lift the suspension of Commissioner Brenda Thompson’s sister.  “I’m an advocate for the people,” said Turner, adding that she wanted to repair the Park District’s tarnished reputation. “I could not be ready for that (board). My name means something. The people know what I represent.”
