The Girlfriend’s Getaway Guide To Santo Domingo: A City Vibe With Pristine Beaches
As a New Yorker, big city living comes natural to me. I love the energy of the skyscrapers and the buzzing nightlife down on the streets. Even though I love for my vacations to be calm and laid back, I have to admit sometimes I miss that cosmopolitan feeling when vacationing in the Caribbean.
If you’re like me, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republican is the perfect one-stop-shop for your travel needs. The city boasts a lively atmosphere while offering crystal clear beaches to set your mind at ease.
I stayed at the Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino in Santo Domingo. The property has a full spa, full gym, restaurants, and a gorgeous pool, among other amenities.
The location is just 25 minutes from Boca Chica beach, a white sand area with pristine beaches for swimming and play. I had lunch at a delicious beach restaurant named Neptunos, right in the heart of Boca Chica. After lunch, I visited Santo Domingo’s historic Colonial Zone, chalk full of history with a modern spin.
While walking the streets of the colonial district, you can stop by the oldest church in the Americas or take a tour of some of the city’s forts. I stopped by the Kah Kow experience where I learned not only how to make chocolate, but tasted some delicious chocolate made out of DR’s own cocao beans.
For the city feel and nightlife, make sure you stop by the JW Marriot, Santo Domingo for a dip in their infinity pool. Their Vertigo Bar is suspended 101ft in the air with panoramic views of all of Santo Domingo.
When it comes to vacation, you really can have it all.
