Missy Elliott Is Open To Redoing Aaliyah’s Biopic
Lifetime’s 2014 biopic about the late Aaliyah, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, was less than spectacular. Since her family disapproved of the project and wouldn’t allow her music to be used, there was more drama than anticipation surrounding the TV movie. Even though 3.2 million viewers tuned in, the movie was not a hit.
One person that wouldn’t mind redoing the “More Than A Woman” singer’s biopic is Missy Elliott. During a visit to Sway’s Universe, the femcee said she would be open to doing it under one condition: the project is approved by Aaliyah’s family.
“When they are ready, I’m quite sure that we’ll do that,” the Virginia native said.
Elliott and Aaliyah were collaborators and also best friends.
The “Throw It Back” rapper is still riding high off of receiving the MTV Vanguard Award and spoke about the way her fans rallied for her to recieve this honor. During her interview, Elliott said that even though her fans felt that the award was overdue, she feels that it was right on time.
“Back then they didn’t have the technology that we have now,” Elliott said. “And for the type of performer that I am, I needed that to happen yesterday when you saw that spaceship hovering over the crowd like that and people being sucked into it. I believe it’s God’s time that I’m on.”
