Ever since they separated in 2009, it’s been very clear that Nas and Kelis have not been on good terms. From their custody and child support battle over their 10-year-old son Knight Jones to Kelis’ allegations of domestic violence during their marriage, these two were far from being amicable with each other. Now that they are no longer in court, Nas says he is hopeful that their relationship will continue to improve.
In a recent talk with the New York Post, Queensbridge rep explained why he had a hard time dealing with their breakup.
“I’ve been through a whole lot, and no one really gave me advice on how to deal with what I was going through with a broken family,” he said.
The “Bye Baby” rapper said he feels that he and the “Bossy” singer can turn over a new leaf and let bygones be bygones.
“I’m optimistic that things will get better. Certain things just have to develop into a better place. But I got love for my ex-wife.”
Nas addressed their tumultuous breakup on his latest album, Lost Tapes 2, on a track titled “Beautiful Life.” He spoke about Kelis keeping him from seeing his son, their court battle and her book where she opened up about their failed marriage.
“Could tell you ‘gon be laughing at me or you laughing with me? My baby’s mom made a book about me, she tried to out me.
In Barnes & Nobles new release section she’s confessin’. Now the streets guessin’ the beefin’ started over some woman.
Couldn’t be the furthest thing from the truth.
Was she looking for fame, yo I hope she got it. Since then I been the object, gossip people tried to target. All women should bid for keeping real fathers away from their kids.”
Let’s hope these two can continue to work towards a better relationship for the sake of their son and their sanity.
