We will be headed back to Wakanda soon but not as soon as we would like. The Wrap reports that while at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA the film’s director Ryan Coogler revealed that the sequel will be hitting theaters May 6th, 2020.

With Black Panther being such a box office smash,  the sequel will have big shoes to fill. The original grossed over $200 million opening weekend last year and went on to take in $1.3 billion in box office sales worldwide.

Having another black superhero film released had a major impact on black culture.  From everyone showing up to the film’s release in Dashikis to the Halloween costumes,  Black Panther  created a moment of jubilance and triumph. With a sequel we get to relive that moment.

As we wait for T’Challa and company to return to the big screen,  hopefully our other black superhero flick will be released. It was announced that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will be starring in Marvel’s reboot of Blade.
