Plenty of people have had a lot to say about Jay-Z’s deal with the NFL, but when it comes to his sister-in-law, Solange, it’s going to be “no comment” for her — at least publicly.

The “Don’t Touch My Hair” singer was seen walking out of an establishment this week with a friend and was jumped on (not physically) by paparazzi who asked her about Jay-Z’s deal. The 33-year-old artist did everything in her power to avoid speaking to them, including rushing back into the establishment, and later on, hauling a– into an awaiting Uber without answering their questions. She wasn’t having it.

While Solange has proven herself time and time again to be all about her family, specifically her big sister Beyoncé, she doesn’t like to be asked about whatever controversy they, as in Jay-Z, might find themselves embroiled in. If you’ll recall, back in 2008 while promoting her album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, an interview she was about to do was introduced while simultaneously associating her with some drama going on with her brother-in-law’s 40/40 Club at the time. When her interview finally began, she addressed the association and called it unprofessional.

We also are all well-aware of the physical altercation between the singer and rapper after the Met Gala in 2014.

With all that being said, it’s clear to see that Solo showed some serious growth by just ignoring the recent inquiries into her thoughts about Jay’s business dealings.

As for the Roc Nation deal with the NFL, for those who were still confused about it, it will make Jay-Z a live entertainment strategist. At the same time, it would also allegedly “amplify” the league’s efforts to inspire change, particularly in education and economic advancement, criminal justice reform, and when it comes to improving police and community relations. The major issue with it though was that it never included Colin Kaepernick, who was pushed out of the league for kneeling during the National Anthem in protest of the killing of Black people by police. He started his protest in 2016 and after entering free agency in 2017, has remained there since. Not to mention, the NFL has been criticized for its efforts to threaten to punish players who didn’t stand for the Anthem, a la Kaepernick, and plenty of owners in the League are cozy with and supporters of Donald Trump.

Whatever the intention, the move has definitely created division within our community. Some have tried to paint Jay-Z as a sellout of sorts for supporting Kaepernick one minute and them teaming up with the NFL the next. Others have also attempted to trash Kaepernick and point out that he took a settlement in February from the NFL after suing them for collusion in 2017 for their attempts to keep him from playing. There are many ways to look at the situation (all seem to be to the benefit of the NFL), but one thing’s clear: don’t ask Solange about it.
