(Chicago Tribune) — Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle lifted her months-old ban on construction spending Wednesday, green-lighting $680 million worth of projects planned for the next three years. More than half the construction blueprint is connected to the county hospital system, including a $126 million redevelopment of the old Cook County Hospital building to add office space for Stroger Hospital and a $50.2 million expansion of Stroger’s parking garage. The county also will build a $92 million jail residential treatment unit.
