Cardi Shares A Very Real Working Mom Struggle: “My Daughter Did Not Want Me To Leave”
Someone once said that motherhood is the only thing that makes you want to go hard and quit your job at the same damn time. Truer words have never been spoken. The dichotomy of the working mother is real and it’s a struggle — regardless of your tax bracket or occupation.
In a recent interview with 92.3 The Beat’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood, Cardi B shared a very real moment to which most working moms could relate. The anecdote came when the Bronx native was asked how she balances motherhood and her thriving career in entertainment. The first-time mom confessed that finding balance gets more challenging as her 1-year-old daughter, Kulture, gets older.
“You wanna know something? It’s so crazy and it’s getting a little bit harder now,” Cardi confessed. “Like yesterday, I usually take a jet, but then I was like, ‘There are only three people in New York.’ It was me, my security and my road manager. Why would I spend $30,000 on a jet when I can ride Delta first class? So I was like, ‘I’m going to take a Delta first class.’ And then, I had to be at the airport at 7:30 and I almost missed my flight because my daughter did not want me to leave.”
While most of us probably can’t relate to the $30,000 private jet part, almost every working mom has experienced the heartbreaking moment of having to leave for work while your baby is crying because she doesn’t want you to go.
Cardi admits that the experience made her rather emotional, but she found a way to distract Kulture so that she could leave.
“It’s getting to that stage now. And my voice was getting mmm. I almost missed my flight. I was like, ‘Let me put on some ‘Baby Shark’ and run,” she joked.
In addition to recently celebrating her daughter’s first birthday, the “Money” rapper is also approaching her two-year wedding anniversary. Though she did not have an elaborate ceremony when she tied the knot in 2017, Cardi says a big wedding is still on her bucket list.
“We want to find time because, for my wedding, I want to go all out.”
And by all out, she means a choreographed bridesmaid and groomsman dance routine and a week-long honeymoon. Judging by her lavish baby shower and Kulture’s fabulous first birthday, Cardi’s wedding will be one for the history books when she slows down long enough to plan it. And speaking of Kulture’s birthday party, the former reality star also addressed rumors that the tot’s bash cost her a half-million dollars.
“It wasn’t half. It was like around $300,000 and some change,” she said. “I only did this for the first year birthday and I always want to remember it. I want to show her videos, but next year? No.”
“Doing my daughter’s first birthday party was so stressful,” she went on. “I was pulling my p—-y hairs out. I was stressed.”
The New York native also discussed her recent meeting with Bernie Sanders and addressed critics who feel that she’s unqualified to speak on politics.
“Let me tell you something, I’m not the most perfect person, but at the end of the day, I’m a citizen of America and I pay taxes here. So when I pay a lot of money for taxes and I be looking at my city, at the Bronx. When I hear people’s stories and they don’t have enough money for healthcare, I be like ‘Why is this sh-t not being taken care of when we pay millions of dollars in taxes in this country?'”
