On Tuesday the family of Janise Harris, a 15-year-old Chicago teen, called on social media to help them locate their loved one who reportedly disappeared after sustaining a physical attack.

On Monday evening a video shared by a Twitter user who claimed to be Harris’ friend, captured a  disturbing scene which showed five girls as they followed and harassed Harris who was walking in what appears to be an alleyway.

In the video one of the girls swings and punches Harris in the back while she screams in agony. As Harris tries to walk away, a male voice can be heard laughing, and one boy can be seen running into the frame to egg the group on.

All of a sudden all of the girls join in, landing punches on Harris as she tries to protect herself. After about 15 seconds Harris falls to the ground in tears as the group finally ends the attack. Throughout the whole ordeal, no one intervened to help.

On Tuesday a user named @sharii41886239, claiming to be Harris’ sister, tweeted that she’s since gone missing and asked for help in locating her whereabouts.

“This is my sister Janise Harris. She’s 15 years old and has a metal disability. She goes to Muchin College Prep. Yesterday she was beaten up by a group of girls and haven’t been seen since. If you have any information please call/text 7087594511,” she wrote.

Multiple responses urged Sharii to contact the Chicago Police Department as a resource after a second tweet on Tuesday morning.

According to various tweets Davis recently lost her mother and spiraled into emotional distress over the traumatizing event.

After the video was shared, social media users called on authorities to identify and locate the group as well as Harris. Several users also shared videos of girls who claimed to be the attackers as they cried and apologized over what transpired.

With all of the controversy surrounding the Chicago Police Department regarding how it has failed communities of color within the city limits, hopefully investigators will launch an investigation into the attack, and most importantly locate Harris for the sake of her family.

If anyone has any information regarding Monday’s events, you can submit an anonymous tip with the Chicago Police Department here, or contact them here.
