One word of advice, if you’ve used Twitter to show just how racist you can be, you might want to log on and delete your tweets, ASAP. One day after Trump Supporter Kathy Zhu, 20, was crowned with the Miss Michigan crown, the beauty queen was stripped of her title by the Miss World America organization.

After racially and religiously insensitive tweets were discovered on Zhu’s twitter page, pageant organizers felt she was in direct violation of the competition’s rules of “good character.” Zhu was advised to no longer mention or use images of her as the winner of Miss Michigan.

Zhu is a college senior at the University of Michigan where she serves as the Social Media Director for the national group of Chinese Americans for Trump. This goes to show you, nothing good comes from supporting 45. In any case, Zhu shared the correspondence with the pageant’s state director, Laurie DeJack. “It has been brought to the attention of Miss World America ‘MWA’ that your social media accounts contain offensive, insensitive and inappropriate content,” Ms. DeJack wrote.

In now deleted tweets from 2018, Zhu criticized a World Hijab Day awareness event held at the University of Central Florida. “There’s a ‘try a hijab on’ booth at my college campus,” Ms. Zhu tweeted. “So you’re telling me that it’s now just a fashion accessory and not a religious thing? Or are you just trying to get women used to being oppressed under Islam.” In another tweet from 2017, Zhu said, “Did you know the majority of black deaths are caused by other blacks?. Fix problems within your own community first before blaming others.

In a recent interview, Zhu stated that her tweets are being taken out of context and she feels like she is being punished for her conservative views. She doesn’t feel it was fair that she did not have the opportunity to explain herself and her opinions.

We live in a world that never forgets when you’re being a racial bigot, especially if it can be found on the internet. Zhu stands by her comments and has since been on a press run to tell her story. What do you think? Is she being punished for simply having a difference of opinion?
