Rapper Da Brat came through swinging in defense of her mentor and So So Def founder Jermaine Dupri.

The “What Do You Like” raptress was caught by TMZ cameras in LAX airport on Tuesday. Last week Dupri caught firestorm over a PEOPLE Tv interview where he claimed that the state of women in hip hop only consists of strippers rapping.

“I don’t think they’re showing us who’s the best rapper,” Dupri said during the interview. “For me, it’s like strippers rapping.”

However, Da Brat argued that his comments were taken out of context.

“Everything Jermaine Durpi does is done strategically,” she began. “He knows what he’s doing, he’s a genius. You should be thankful that the conversation is even started now, all female rappers because now the focus is absolutely on us.”

“That’s not what he said, go back and look at the whole interview. Da Brat said there was pieced of the interview that was cut off where Dupri was asked to pick between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

“I love Jermaine Dupri, he’s very smart at what he does and there’s a lot of method to his madness,” said. “This conversation needed to be had a long time ago.

Meanwhile, Dupri acknowledged that he got an influx of calls, texts, DM’s about his controversial statements and vowed to do something about it.

“After all the calls, DMs, angry tweets and other messages saying ‘I am a major gatekeeper in the hip hop world, why don’t I invest in a female who is out here hustling and making a name for herself?’ I decided to create the  #SoSoDefFemalecypher, details coming soon,” he wrote on social media.

But a lot of people weren’t here for Dupri throwing out a female led cypher.

Clearly the consensus reads that this is not what the people wanted.
