Kentucky Professor Draws Parallels to Student Tardiness and Slavery

Retirement will come early for Murray State University professor Mark Wattier, presumably to reflect on his poor judgement skills. The longtime political science professor referred to slavery while making a point about tardiness to two black students last semester, reports the Associated Press.

Wattier was suspended without pay after one student filed a complaint to the university, and he filed his application with the state for retirement with a date effective March 1. An honorable exit for a man who has clearly shown how honorable he is.

On Friday he sent a lengthy e-mail to The Associate Press explaining his side of the story. Wattier acknowledged that he made a mistake.
