“I Trust The System”: Cuba Gooding Jr. Denies Groping Accusation But Will Surrender To NYPD
Cuba Gooding Jr. is disputing a recent claim that he fondled a woman’s breast at a Manhattan rooftop bar on Sunday evening.
TMZ cameras caught the actor as he arrived at LAX airport on Tuesday prior to his flight back to New York City. Gooding revealed that he will turn himself into the NYPD’s Special Victim’s Unit on Thursday, the same group of investigators who are handling the case.
“I trust the system,” the 51-year-old said. “There’s a tape that shows what really happened — that’s the most important thing.”
After the photog asked Cuba wha happened, he responded, “I was at the club, I left. I met a bunch of people, I said hello, I took pictures and … you know, you have to have faith in what people are saying … now I’m giving the process the chance to show what happened, what went down.”
A social media video shows the actor singing and interacting with fans earlier in the evening prior to the alleged incident.
The actor also contends that surveillance footage will exonerate him from the groping accusation, and changed the subject to tip his hat to comedian Jon Stewart who earlier in the day lashed out at congress over the 9/11 Victim Fund.
A 30-year-old woman said that she was socializing with the actor inside Midtown’s Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge, when he touched her breasts. The woman claims Gooding was “highly intoxicated” at the time of the alleged incident which, according to her report, took place around 9 p.m. She called the police around 1 a.m. and filed a report for forcible touching.
