Cook’s Black-Owned Business Count Topped Counties Nationwide
(Crain’s) — Cook County had 83,733 black-owned businesses in 2007, more than any other U.S. county, according to the Census Bureau. Data released Tuesday shows a 58% increase between 2002 and 2007, bringing the number of black-owned businesses in the greater Chicago area to 101,586. The number of black-owned businesses in the U.S. reached 1.9 million, an increase of about 61%, while receipts rose 55% to $137.5 billion.
