A Baytown, Texas, Black woman was fatally shot by an officer during a disturbing encounter which took place outside the woman’s apartment complex on Monday night.

The shooting, which was captured on video and shared on social media, quickly pointed to another incessant occurrence of watching the destruction of Black bodies.

According to Click 2 Houston, an officer pulled into The Brixton Apartments complex when he recognized the woman whom he reportedly had “prior dealings” with. Family identified the woman as Pamela Turner, 44. The officer then proceeded to arrest Turner on the basis of prior warrants.

On the video you can hear Turner tell the officer, “I’m walking! I’m actually walking to my house!” She later says the officer is “harassing” her.

As the officer continues to attempt the arrest, she yells, “I’m pregnant!”

According to the officer’s report, Turner resisted arrest and became engaged in a physical struggle after the officer attempted to deploy his taser.

“During the course of the attempted arrest, the female began struggling with the officer, which forced the officer to deploy his Taser,” said Lt. Steve Dorris, with the Baytown Police Department. “That deployment was not effective, and the female was able to get the officer’s Taser away from him. (She) actually tased the officer, which forced the officer to draw his duty weapon and fire multiple rounds at the suspect.”

Turner was pronounced dead at the scene according the Harris County District Attorney’s Office who is overseeing the investigation, NBC News reports.

Witnesses described Turner as a quiet woman who would mostly “just walk around, smoke her cigarettes and walk her dogs.” One resident said they have never experienced anything close to this since living in the apartment complex.

Turner’s sister Antoinette told Click 2 Houston that she was the mother of two children, both in their 20’s, and was also the grandmother of three. Her family claims that she was on medication for schizophrenia and also revealed that the officer and Turner were neighbors. Prior to the shooting, Turner had reportedly complained to family about being harassed by the officer.

Police are seeking out who filmed the encounter and are also working to confirm the reports that Turner was indeed with child during the altercation, via an autopsy report. The officer involved in the shooting remains unnamed and was placed on paid administrative leave, according to CNN.
