According to society, the number one rule in fashion for plus size women is to wear dark-colored clothing, namely black. Dark clothes are supposed to make you appear smaller and all plus-size women want to appear smaller, right? Well, the number one rule in the book of Maui Bigelow, creator of the Life Styled Honors Awards, is to forget the rules and bend and break every single one of those suckers. Plus size women wear what you want to wear in whatever color you desire and offer no apologies.
Because I am a proud habitual line stepper who encourages all women to be bold enough to break society’s rules, I created a space to do just that. This space is Curves En Blanc, an all-white party for plus size women that welcomes all men and women. Curves En Blanc is an event that empowers plus size women fashionably by promoting the dismissal of one of society’s oldest and most ignorant fashion rules for plus size women. The event invites its attendees to eat, drink good and dance like no one is watching because honestly, no one is watching, they are too busy following suit. The event is a safe judgment-free zone in which men and women of all size and from all walks of life are encouraged to do the most while styling and profiling in all white.
This year’s Curves En Blanc was held on April 26, 2019, at Suite Food Lounge in Downtown Atlanta and it was lit. Not only did men and women travel from all over the world to celebrate and be empowered, but the plus-size community’s top influencers and favorite brands were also all present and accounted for. Click through to see the marvelous fashions on plus-size women who aren’t afraid to be seen.
