Young Candidates Taste Reality
(New York Times) — Devon Reid, an aldermanic candidate in the 26th Ward, said that only one person had slammed the door in his face as he has campaigned for a City Council seat. He said the abrupt dismissal was not because of his views but because of his age: 18. Mr. Reid is one of the youngest candidates in the Feb. 22 municipal election. “There’s been a couple of times where people have asked my age and thought I was too young,” said Mr. Reid, who is taking a semester off from his freshman year at Wilbur Wright College to run against Roberto Maldonado, the ward’s freshman alderman.
