Over the weekend, we reported that famed director John Singleton had suffered a stroke and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Unfortunately, things seem to have taken a turn for the worse, in terms of his condition.
According to TMZ, the Boyz n The Hood director has fallen into a coma. TMZ reports that Singleton’s stroke was more serious than his family initially revealed. TMZ reports that Singleton’s family is currently in the process of establishing conservatorship—a legal guardian or protector to manage his financial affairs.
As we reported earlier, Singleton suffered a stroke after returning from Costa Rica. He was experiencing problems with his legs and checked himself into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A.
He had the stroke Wednesday, in his hospital room.
When news of his condition reached the media, family members characterized the stroke as “mild.”
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, John’s mother, Sheila Ward, is asking a judge to make her the interim conservator because he is “unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.”
Ward says that at the time of his stroke, Singleton was juggling several business projects and was prepared to sign, as TMZ puts it, a “lucrative settlement agreement.” She wants to pick up where he left off and execute the settlement agreement.
Singleton, 51, did not have any medical directives.
