Curvy Girls Will Be Celebrated And Empowered At The 6th Annual Life Styled Honors In Atlanta This Weekend
Years ago, I learned great responsibility comes with recognizing a void. When you are a part of a community, you have an obligation to individuals within that community, and that means not only recognizing gaps but working to fill those voids. Because I understand my responsibility to my community, I’m always committed to being the woman I needed as a girl; a woman that spreads knowledge, love, and light. It’s that understanding that led me to create Life Styled Honors, an event that celebrates the beauty and brilliance of all women.
All my life I have been surrounded by amazing women who walked different paths. Teachers, preachers, drug addicts, single mothers, criminals, and trauma survivors were all apart of my circle of women who watered this beautiful flower. My experiences with these women weren’t always pleasant, and the women were far from perfect, but they taught me lessons about life and love and assisted me in determining the woman I wanted to be. Most of all, these women taught me one truth that I will carry with me forever: there is no one way to be a woman. And that is why I salute and celebrate all women.
Seven years ago, when I launched the PHAT Girl Fresh blog, I didn’t know a lot, but one thing was clear, the brand would be one that unapologetically celebrated the beauty and diversity of women. One year later, I produced my first sold out Life Styled Honors. Six years later, we’re still selling out, garnering the support of women from all over the world while empowering women through fashion.
Identified as an “ingenious meld of fashion & empowerment,” Life Styled Honors celebrates promising and notable influence in fashion, entertainment, and empowerment. Past honorees have included Project Runway model competition winner Liris Cross, Married To Medicine star Mariah Huq, digital influencer Essie Golden, and social activist and founder of the #MeToo Movement, Tarana Burke. This year’s event will honor producer, TV star, and R&B singer, Nicci Gilbert-Daniels for her philanthropic work. Other honorees include digital influencer Cece Olisa, wirter and producer Danielle Young, designer and model Francie Maupin, local government official Jacqueline Teemer, digital influencer Nikki Free Wiggins, and our PHAT Boy Fresh Honoree Michael Moss.
