The Met Gala otherwise known as fashion prom is when Hollywood’s elite get together to raise money for the Costume Institute of the MET. The gala helps to kick off the Costume Institutes annual exhibit. This year, the Met Gala is gearing up to be one of the most creative ones, invoking play through the concept of camp.

The theme was selected by Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute and the exhibition is built around Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay Notes on Camp. The exhibit will feature 200 fine art and fashion objects ranging from the 17th century, specifically the court of Versailles to the present day. At a press conference in February, Anna Wintour told the crowd, “Basically, we go from sun kings to drag queens.” Expect to see looks from Moschino’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, Gucci’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, Off-White’s pre-Fall 2018 edit, Schiaparelli, Anna Sui, and of course, Jeremy Scott.

48 percent of the guests that attend the Met Gala are actors so it’s no surprise that the hosts will be too! Anna Wintour is looking to Wakanda for help and have added Lupita Nyong’o and Chadwick Boseman to the list of hosts. Come on Wakanda! To help Wintour host the Met Gala is an honor, with Rihanna being one of the co-chairs for 2018. Additional hosts this year include J.Lo and her soon to be hubby, Alex Rodriguez. Serena Williams is co-chairing the gala with Wintour. Wow!

The Met Gala is always hosted the first Monday in May and will take place at the MET on Monday, May 6th, 2019. Who are you most excited to see?
