#BlendedBeauty: The Right Foundation For Tricky Skin

April 18, 2019  |

Picking the perfect foundation, for women of color, can be challenging. Not only do you have to find a brand that caters to melanin-rich complexions, but also one that’s formulated for your specific skin type. Whether oily, dry, or combination, there are a host of skin conditions that should be considered in the search for the perfect foundation. Most women will agree, finding a foundation that compliments both skin tone and type isn’t an easy feat.

In our #BlendedBeauty series, we teamed up with Sephora to help women of different skin types find the perfect foundation. Some suffer from acne-prone skin while others experience discoloration or hyperpigmentation. After hearing about their challenges, our makeup artist used a mix of specially-picked foundations to help these blended beauties find the right brand to enhance their complexion and compliment their skin type.

My skin is a trickster. At times it can get very oily, specifically when I wear makeup; but when I take it off, especially during the winter, it’s dry and even peels. I walk this weird line of being overly moisturized and extremely dry. It’s been a very interesting journey to find the right foundation.

I haven’t been wearing makeup very long. In the beginning it was fun searching for the right foundation, but I’ve had to adjust what I wear because of my skin type. I’ve always had a very rough relationship with hyperpigmentation due to acne scarring that I had from high school and college.

I don’t just want a foundation that covers my skin. I need one that will also prevent breakouts from happening. I know that having a good facial regimen is also important, so lately I’ve been doing chemical peels to try to refresh my skin.

The Fix: “What I enjoyed most about the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation in the Bronze shade was that it felt so lightweight and looked so natural, as opposed to giving the impression that I was wearing a lot of makeup. I’ve been using it since the shoot and noticed that I’m not dealing with the shiny forehead issue that I’m used to, nor do I feel like the makeup leaves me feeling dry. I very much enjoy the color and the overall coverage. Beauty is all about how you feel inside; but if you’ve ever had to wear the wrong foundation, you know that it’s not a good feeling. When you have the right one, that matches your tone and skin type, you just feel good.”

Brand: Estee Lauder, Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation: A 24-hour liquid foundation with a flawless, natural, matte finish that unifies uneven skin tone and covers imperfections with buildable coverage. Double wear is available in over 55 shades.
