#BlendedBeauty: Suffer From Skin Discoloration? Try This!

April 15, 2019  |

Picking the perfect foundation, for women of color, can be challenging. Not only do you have to find a brand that caters to melanin-rich complexions, but also one that’s formulated for your specific skin type. Whether oily, dry, or combination, there are a host of skin conditions that should be considered in the search for the perfect foundation. Most women will agree, finding a foundation that compliments both skin tone and type isn’t an easy feat.

In our #BlendedBeauty series, we teamed up with Sephora to help women of different skin types find the perfect foundation. Some suffer from acne-prone skin while others experience discoloration or hyperpigmentation. After hearing about their challenges, our makeup artist used a mix of specially-picked foundations to help these blended beauties find the right brand to enhance their complexion and compliment their skin type.

Skin type: Oily + Suffers from discoloration

My relationship with makeup began at a young age because I was in modeling school. That’s when I learned how to apply foundation. My mother knew that I wasn’t going to wear it on a daily basis as a child, so she didn’t buy anything really expensive. We basically just used the drugstore brands. We could never find a foundation that perfectly matched my complexion or skin type. I have very oily, acne-prone skin. So not only do I have to find something that matches my complexion, I also have to find a brand that caters to my skin issues.

I do some on-air appearances for my job and get to work with a lot of makeup artists who have gotten my foundation right; but I’ve found that they have to use a combination of things to get the color to match perfectly because of discoloration.

The Fix: I’d never used powder before but loved the Sephora Collection Matte Perfection Powder Foundation shade 42 in warm tan that was used on my skin. I noticed that when I use liquid foundation for my oily skin, it sometimes oxidizes a little; the powder was definitely a better option. It’s very lightweight and didn’t irritate my acne-prone skin. It also gave me a really nice matte finish.

Brand: Sephora Collection, Matte Perfection Powder Foundation: A soft-matte, long-wear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage, in a creamy powder foundation, with weightless, buildable coverage, that flexes and moves with the skin, and has a natural-matte finish.
