Rep. Ilhan Omar Prays For Trump Hours After He Mocked Her In The Midst Of A Death Threat Investigation
Rep. Ilhan Omar asked God to forgive Donald Trump after he made fun of her, hours after a vocal Trump supporter was arrested for threatening to harm the congresswoman.
On Friday, the FBI arrested and charged a New York man with a criminal complaint after he threatened to assault and murder Omar, USA Today reports. On March 21, Patrick W. Carlineo, 55, called her congressional office where he asked a staff member: “Why are you working for her, she’s a f***ing terrorist. I’ll put a bullet in her f***ing skull.”
Omar’s office immediately reported the call to the FBI and in coordination with the United States Capitol Police, launched an investigation into the report.
According to the criminal complaint filed by prosecutors, the man also told the FBI that he “loves the president and that he hates radical Muslims in our government.”
“If our forefathers were still alive, they’d put a bullet in her head,” he said in addition according to the complaint.
Hours after the arrest, Trump appeared at an event in Las Vegas for the Republican Jewish Coalition. While on stage he took a cheap hit at Omar who has received backlash over comments she made in defense of Palestine, while also accusing politicians of being financially swayed by a Jewish lobbyist organization.
“Special thanks to Representative Omar of Minnesota. Oh, I forgot. She doesn’t like Israel. I forgot. I’m so sorry.”
Omar, a freshman representative for Milwaukee, who is also one of three Muslims elected to congress, tweeted a prayer of forgiveness for the president on Saturday.
“My Lord, forgive my people for they do not know,” Omar tweeted on Sunday, paraphrasing Jesus’ last words in the chapter of Luke, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
