While her friendships with her cast mates might be in turmoil, Nene Leakes does have a bright light at the end of a dark tunnel to rejoice in.
On Wednesday The Real Housewives of Atlanta star shared with her millions of followers that her husband Gregg Leakes completed his final round of chemotherapy, after undergoing the process for the past six months.
“TODAY my husband @greggleakes has completed 6 months of chemotherapy!” Nene shared on Instagram. “Awesome job hunni! I’m so happy for you and the strength you showed during this difficult time in your life!” PS: Thank you to all of our family, friends, fans, doctors and nurses who lifted us up in constant prayer, sent recipes, doctors info, gave advice and gifts! We love you ❤️ PSS: what a relief! We finally get to share with the world what we’ve been going thru.”
In the video Gregg is smiling and jubilant while he bangs a large going in the chemotherapy room. Gregg can be seen getting emotional near the end of the video as he embraces the medical staff who administered the process.
The journey has been long and arduous for the Leakes after Gregg was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer last year, which played out in front of cameras during the most recent season of RHOA. He underwent surgery as part of the initial process and then turned to wholistic methods, such as a vegan diet to treat the disease. During the later part of the season Gregg decided to undergo chemotherapy, reversing a previous decision to decline treatment.
Both Nene and Gregg were tested in their marriage due to the diagnosis, with Nene feeling unappreciated under the huge amount of stress from being a caretaker, while Gregg was faced with his mortality.
At one point during the season, Nene revealed that she and her husband were experience turbulence even before the cancer diagnosis, which added to the tense predicament. Gregg issued a public apology to Nene in January, thanking her for standing by him during the difficult venture.
We’re sending a huge congratulations to Gregg and Nene for undergoing the storm and coming out on the other side!
