Cam Newton Says Going Celibate For 31 Days “Changed My Life” So Much, He’s Doing It For The Entire Football Season
While appearing on The Late Late Show With James Corden last month, Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton revealed that every month of the year, he was attempting to give up something to practice discipline. In January, it was placing bets. In February, it was any food that wasn’t vegan. In March, it was no sex. Or as he put it, “No climax,” and no self-pleasure either.
“I’m going through a transition right now,” he said at the time. “I wanted it to be challenging.”
“For me, doing certain things that challenge me in the off-season that I can’t necessarily do, so now when the season comes along it makes my mind stronger,” he added. “I feel like if I go back and I say ‘I did those things,’ I’m mentally stronger.”
Well, in a video he shared on his new YouTube channel on Monday, the 29-year-old shared that he’d been successful in his attempt to go without sex for the entire month and was feeling phenomenal.
“Those 31 days have changed my life in ways that I never probably would have even expected,” he said. “I felt stronger mentally as well as physically. Felt clean. I just see things differently.”
He went on to say that looking at beautiful women, for example, in Victoria’s Secret ads, is now like looking at Martha Stewart cooking stuffed cabbage. And Beyoncé performing reminds him of women in the church choir singing. According to him, sex and sexual things are the last thing on his mind right now.
He was so successful in fact, that Newton said he was going to keep the challenge going for himself — and include his Panthers teammates.
“It has changed my life in incredible ways. And that’s why I’m doing a Carolina Panthers celibacy Super Bowl challenge,” he announced. “I am gonna challenge everybody on my team to not have no climax for the whole football season. It’s going to be trying but it will be worth it. We’ll have a lot of focus.”
A few people on the team said they were already on board, even sharing that they’d already seen a difference in their athletic abilities. He’s hoping that going without sex will help them gain in other ways, including a Super Bowl championship. The Panthers were last in the Super Bowl in 2016, which they lost.
“So get ready everybody. This is about to be the Carolina Panthers’ year,” he said. “It gotta be. Or one of the wives is gonna kill me [laughs].”
We’d also be remiss if we didn’t point out that Newton could be having an easier time with this whole celibacy thing if the rumors are true that he and longtime girlfriend Kia Proctor split recently. The rumors started in February after they took down photos of one another from their social media. She does follow him though — but he doesn’t follow her.
The pair share three kids together: Chosen, Sovereign-Dior Cambella and Camidas. Proctor also has a daughter from a previous relationship named Shakira whom Cam happily claims as his own.
