The tenacity of April Breedlove is admirable. When she sets her sight on something, she doesn’t lose focus. She admitted to not getting into the program last year but applied again. “Never let fear stop you from doing what you want because you don’t know what you might be missing out on.”

Breedlove’s family took a different approach to educate April and her siblings. This approach is what she credits to her current success. She tells Madame Noire, “I’m really proud of the fact my parents decided to homeschool my siblings and I. It was a different environment from public school. We were able to move at our own pace. I was able to go as fast as I needed to. We were also able to interact with different people through that because there was different homeschool groups we were a part of. Different demographics of people. We learned to talk to adults through that. I think it really shaped me into the person I am now. I go to a private school now, but I’m grateful for that experience.”
