For the second time in two weeks, R. Kelly has been released from prison.
After being released on bail after being charged with 10 counts of criminal sexual assault on February 25th, the cuffs were slapped back on his wrists shortly after due to the outstanding amount of child support he owes to his ex-wife Andrea Kelly. He was released today from Chicago’s Cook County Jail after an unknown person paid the $161,000 lump sum in full.
While leaving the court room, the 52-year-old vowed to address this child support issue.
“I promise you, we’re going to straighten all this stuff out,” according to CNN.“ That’s all I can say right now. I promise you.”
In 2009, it was ruled that he was to pay his ex-wife $20,833 a month in child support.
Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, told reporters that the Pied Piper is due back in court Wednesday to continue to work this matter out. He also said that a judge put a “gag order” in place which prevents Kelly was discussing this matter with the media.
As far as for his indictment in his criminal case, he is due back in court on March 22nd.
“It’s open season on R. Kelly,” Greenberg said to reporters after Kelly’s release.
Kelly pleaded not guilty to the charges, which pertains to the alleged sexual abuse of four women.
He continues to deny the latest allegations, and most recently did so in an explosive interview with CBS’ Gayle King. During the sit down, which has went viral, he cried, he screamed out of frustration and claimed he was “fighting for his life” since allegations of sexual abuse began to surface again.
