In case you hadn’t heard, R. Kelly is broke. And that’s the reason why he sat in jail for a couple of days. He didn’t have the funds to post his bail. And apparently, he didn’t have the resources to pull it all together either.
But according to The Associated Press, a lone woman from the suburbs of Chicago posted the singer’s $100,000 bail which allowed Kelly to be freed from jail while he awaits his sexual abuse charges.
The Chicago Tribune reports that court records show a 47-year-old woman from Romeoville, Illinois posted the bail, which was 10 percent of the $1 million bond the judge set on Monday. The woman identified herself as “a friend” of the singer.
Kelly, who was arrested last Friday, spent the weekend in jail. He release on Monday came after her lawyer pled not guilty on his behalf to all 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse. The singer is accused of abusing four people dating back to 1998, including three underage girls.
This is the first time he’s been back in court since 2008, when he was acquitted of child pornography charges.
As we reported earlier, the new charges claim that Kelly sexually abused four women, three of them who were minors.
Kelly has denied all wrongdoing.
