Big Boi Lands Role As Berry Gordy In ‘Debarge’ Biopic
Big Boi is stepping out of the studio and on to the movie set. The ATL rep landed a role as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy in a TV One’s upcoming biopic about Bobby Debarge and his family.
He announced on Instagram that the movie, which was shot in Atlanta, has wrapped with a pic of his chair on the movie’s set.
“Just finished playing Berry Gordy in the “Debarge” movie @swirlfilmsig 🎬🎥🔥 coming Soon!” he wrote.
Big Boi is starring alongside singer Lloyd, Roshon Fegan, Tyra Ferrell and Adrian Marcel.
The Bobby Debarge biopic will tell the tumultuous story of Bobby and his musical family. Bobby, who was the eldest of the Debarge clan, was the lead singer of the 70’s Funk/R&B band Switch.
“While our audience knows Bobby’s group, Switch, and his musically-gifted family, DeBarge, they may not know Bobby DeBarge’s contribution to creating the sound that changed the music landscape for decades to come,”Karen Peterkin, Director of Scripted Original Programming and Production, said in a statement. “A falsetto master, Bobby DeBarge was a musical genius who battled demons of his own for many years. The Bobby Debarge Story is the quintessential story of sex, drugs and rock and roll.”
The Bobby Debarge Story is set to debut in June 2019.
