Not That One: Twitter Comes To The Defense Of Malia Obama
A part of me feels like writing this story is drawing more attention to what is essentially, a non-issue. But the purpose of this piece is to highlight just how much of a non-issue it is and to remind folks to mind their business.
Over the weekend, Malia Obama was seen, on vacation, sipping from a bottle of Rosé. The controversy arose because the eldest Obama daughter is only 20-years-old, a year younger than the legal drinking age in this country.
You’d be hard pressed to find a person who didn’t take a sip of alcohol before their 21st birthday but because she’s the daughter of a former president, she’s being held to a standard most of us can’t and have no desire to live up to.
Then later, another report materialized which unearthed a Facebook page that has been associated to the Former First Daughter. Most of the posts showed her on vacation during the gap year she took after her senior year of high school, hanging out with friends etc. But the cover image on the page is what drew the most attention.
It featured hot pink post notes with sentences like:
“Donald Trump is President.”
“This is not normal.”
“Donald Trump is evil.”
“Don’t be complacent.”
I mean, same sis.
Like I said, Malia Obama is doing and saying the same things we’ve all done, thought or wanted to do or say. Still, there are people acting as if this news is a scandal.
Thankfully, there have been more than a few people who have come to her defense, including another former First Daughter, Chelsea Clinton.
See what people had to say on the following pages.
