Kenan Thompson has been tapped to help revive one the shows that helped catapult him into stardom. The Saturday Night Live star will serve as the executive producer for the revival of All That, E! reports.
Thompson is very grateful to have the chance to return to his Nickelodeon roots.
“It means everything to me,” he told Variety. “It was my first job that I ever had. It gave me an opportunity.”
All That will be returning as a weekly-sketch show and will have a cast full of new faces along with some familiar ones. The ’90’s favorite was a Nickelodeon staple from 1994-2005 and helped jumpstart the careers of those like Nick Cannon, Kel Mitchell, Amanda Bynes and Lori Beth Denberg. All That‘s “Good Burger” skit actually planted the seed for Kenan and Kel to star in the 1997 flick of the same name.
All That isn’t the only Nickelodeon show making a comeback. The network is also reviving Are You Afraid of the Dark? and will be premiering a new version of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? and a SpongeBob spinoff.
Nickelodeon’s president Brian Robbins said that he is hoping to revamp the channel with these reboots.
“We have a laser focus on who kids are today, and what they want, so we are making a wider variety of shows and series for them, and we’re working with brand-new kinds of talent and producers,” Robbins said in statement. “We have a new creative team in place and a renewed energy that we’re harnessing to bring the buzz back to Nick.”
