Kristoff St. John Will Be Laid To Rest Next To Late Son, Julian
Sources reportedly close to his family told the site that he will be laid to rest at the Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, California, in a plot that is right next to Julian’s. A funeral date has not been made public as of yet, and despite an autopsy being completed, Kristoff’s cause of death won’t be released until toxicology test results come in.
As previously reported, the actor was pronounced dead after police found him unresponsive in his home in San Fernando Valley last Sunday. A source told TMZ that alcohol could have played a part in his unexpected passing, as police were responding to a possible alcohol overdose call. They also recently reported that Kristoff had checked himself into UCLA’s Medical Center in January to seek treatment for depression-related issues, and was released just days before his death.
Kristoff had been struggling since Julian’s passing. The 24-year-old died by suicide in 2014, and in 2017, as the anniversary of Julian’s death approached, the actor threatened to take his own life and sought mental health treatment after the fact.
In a story we did last week following news of the star’s death, we spoke to Rheeda Walker, PhD, University of Houston associate professor of psychology and director of the Culture, Risk and Resilience Lab, about the internal battles people face, Kristoff included, when their loved one dies by suicide.
“For people who have lost someone to suicide and are grieving, we call those individuals suicide survivors,” she said. “They survive the death of someone else who has died by suicide. Not only are they dealing with just a tremendous sense of loss, which is tough for anyone, but they may also be experiencing a fair amount of guilt that they didn’t recognize what was going on, or they didn’t see the problem or that they did not do something when they saw a problem. So I think it’s a lot of guilt that confounds the loss of a loved one, which is something that I don’t think we deal with very well in our society anyway, when loved ones die. But when you add suicide to it, it increases the stress for those who are survivors.”
Kristoff was 52 years old. He leaves behind daughters Paris Nicole from his marriage to Julian’s mother, Mia St. John, and Lola, from his marriage to Allana Nadal, as well as fiancée Kseniya Olegovna Mikhaleva.
