Ava DuVernay, Angela Davis And More Are Still Standing With Colin Kaepernick During Superbowl Weekend
Many people are flooding the streets of Atlanta this weekend for the Superbowl. Football lovers have been partying all weekend, however there are still many people who are still standing with Colin Kaepernick and boycotting the NFL.
Ava DuVernay took to Twitter today to declare that she will not be supporting the Superbowl and is continuing to protest.
“I will not be a spectator, viewer or supporter of the
#SuperBowl today in protest of the @NFL’s racist treatment of @Kaepernick7 and its ongoing disregard for the health + well-being of all its players,” she tweeted.
Angela Davis also showed support to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback by donning his jersey that also has the hashtag #IMWITHKAP across the front.
Kaepernick expressed his appreciation via social media to the activist and feminist.
“I can’t explain how much it means to have the support of the Icon Angela Davis! She has laid the foundation for myself and many others to fight against anti-blackness, and has never wavered!”
NBA stars LeBron James and Kevin Durant also wore the same jersey this weekend, showing that they will not support the NFL during the biggest weekend of the season.
Kaepernick became a free agent during the 2016-17 season after he began kneeling in protest of the blatant racism against African-Americans while the National Anthem played. Once Kaepernick was not picked up by any teams, the public collectively agreed to boycott the NFL due to his unfair treatment.
