Wendy Williams‘ health is in worse shape than she initially thought, so she’s announced that she is taking an extended leave from her hit talk show to deal with it.
On Friday, the 54-year-old TV personality put out a “note” on Twitter on behalf of her family and from the company behind her show, Debmar-Mercury. According to that note, on top of still waiting for her fractured shoulder to heal, this week, Williams suffered some complications from her Graves’ disease diagnosis (immune disorder attacking the thyroid) that will require her to be hospitalized.
“Wendy will be under the strict supervision of her physicians, and as part of her care, there will be significant time spent in the hospital,” the message reads. “Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being.”
Williams initially said before the holidays that she was going to take some time off to rest and come back 100 percent for her fans, and that seems to be taking a lot longer than initially planned — at least longer than her three-week hiatus earlier this year. Her absence this time around could be solely based on her Graves’ and shoulder fracture, or it could also involve some personal issues that have played out publicly concerning the whereabouts of her husband, Kevin, as of late. Whatever the true reason, considering there have been so many questions and concerns about her health and happiness from Wendy watchers for pretty much more than a year, an extended leave sounds like the best plan of action for now.
With that being said, we thought we’d take a look back at how Williams got to this point, starting in 2017 when stories first started churning about what could be going on with her behind the scenes.
September 2017 – Rumors Spread That Husband Kevin Has A Long-Term Mistress
The Daily Mail published a story claiming that Williams’ husband Kevin Hunter had been stepping out with the same woman for 10 years. And while that sounded crazy, the site had a lot of proof, including photos of Hunter and the woman, Sharina Hudson, together, as well as photos of Hunter’s name written as a resident in the mailbox of a New Jersey home Hudson had been living in. Williams addressed the story on her show.
“It’s some sort of weird story going around the Internet regarding my husband,” she said. “Look, I’m a straight shooter. Pow, pow. All you got to do is Google him and you see the story. You can believe what you want, but… [flashes ring] I stand by my guy.”
“All is well in Hunterville. Don’t believe the hype,” Williams added. “And if there was hype, believe me you, I would let you know. And by the way, I’ll be following this story. So I guess I’ll have to watch to find out what happens.”
