As Angela Simmons reflected on the upcoming New Year celebrations, she took a moment to acknowledge the lowest moment of the year for her–the death of the father of her child, Sutton Tennyson.

In November, authorities “discovered a 37-year-old black male lying deceased, with multiple gunshot wounds, inside an open garage” in Atlanta. The man was later revealed to be Tennyson, Angela’s ex-fiance and the father of her son, Sutton Tennyson Jr.

While the case is still under investigation, authorities revealed they believed Sutton’s death was a result of a heated confrontation with another man which led to the suspect speeding away “from the scene in a car,” People reports.

Simmons ended her engagement to Tennyson back in May, telling her brother on an episode of “Growing Up Hip Hop,”

“I’m single now, we’re not together it just didn’t work out for me…We’re just done.”

The 31-year-old went on to say that the reason for their split was “a number of things, not just one thing—nothing that you would be happy about.”

Now the mother-of-one is reflecting on how to continue to carry out his legacy.

“As this year comes to a close … I reflect on the most difficult hurdle I’ve ever had to face. And it’s losing my son’s father . To know that you are with us in spirit is sometimes just not enough . But as the new year comes in I know that I will do my best carrying Sj with your strength and mine. And now being mommy and daddy to our beautiful son . Thank you for my best gift ever. Sj will forever carry your name. Rest now . I got us ♥️💪🏽 2019 we are ready.”
