2019 Wedding Watch: Jemele Hill, Safaree Samuels, And All The Stars Who Got Engaged This Year
While gossip sites might love a messy celebrity breakup, we’d much rather celebrate celebs who have found love in the hopeless place known as Hollywood. It’s not easy to find your match when money, power, and fame are involved, but this year we saw plenty stars who’d been counted out connect with significant others who either made them put a ring on it or say yes when that special question was asked. From divorcees to women over 40 and everything in between, here are the stars who are on wedding watch for 2019 after getting engaged this year.
Porsha will be ending 2019 as a mom and, most likely, a wife, again. In September, we found out the Real Housewives of Atlanta star was expecting a baby with boyfriend Dennis McKinley. And just a few days later, the 37-year-old announced she’s also engaged. Porsha is pregnant with a girl and the child will be her and Dennis’ first. The baby girl is expected in the spring, but there’s no timeline for the nuptials just yet.
Zoe wanted to keep her engagement private, but when a reporter caught a sparkling diamond on her ring finger during an interview for Rolling Stone, the cat was out of the bag regarding her betrothal to fellow actor Karl Glusman. The couple dated for two years before the engagement, which we didn’t know about until months after. We’re sure it’ll be the same when it comes to the pair’s wedding.
Safaree Samuels popped the question to short-term girlfriend Erica Mena on Christmas Eve. The 37-year-old had apparently been wanting to ask for Erica’s hand since her birthday November 8, but he waited until the holidays to propose, with a $175,000 ring no less.
Jemele Hill has had plenty of professional ups and downs this year, but her personal life is ending on quite the high note in 2018. The 43-year-old sports commentator revealed her boyfriend Ian Wallace popped the question to her on December 27th, writing on Instagram, “I’ve called this my year of transition. I left a job, started a new job, moved to a new city and now … I’m engaged to the love of my life. I’m overjoyed and immensely blessed.”
Empire star Terrence Howard is attempting to make the second time a charm after popping the question to ex-wife Mira Pak on Christmas. The pair initially tied the knot in October 2013 and separated in August of 2014, with their divorce being official on July 27, 2015. Some time between then and now, the two reunited and Terrence put a ring on it again this holiday, saying:
“It took me 45 years to find you, but now that I have you in my 50th year, I will spend the rest of eternity at your side and I pray that everybody finds that one that will complete them for all eternity because it means everything. I love you.”

Cece Gutierrez may not have officially been a basketball wife when she joined the cast of the VH1 show this past season, but she’s well on her way now. The 46-year-old got engaged to NBA coach Byron Scott in September and though he shared the news then, Cece didn’t put her ring on blast until this holiday season.
After a tumultuous relationship that ended in divorce, WNBA star Brittney Griner found love again with longtime girlfriend Cherelle Watson. According to TMZ, the pair first met when they were students at Baylor University. The two seem to have reunited after Brittney filed for an annulment in 2015 after her marriage to Glory Johnson and in August they were engaged.
When Joe Budden said he’d be OK if he and Cyn Santana never had sex again, more than a few eyebrows were raised about their relationship, but the 38-year-old rapper, reality star, and Revolt TV show host proved his love for Cyn is deeper than physical when he proposed less than a month later. The 26-year-old, who is also the mother of Joe’s one-year-old son Lexington, said yes, confirming what she stated about their relationship back in 2016 when they first got together: “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
Taraji P. Henson
Mother’s Day was extra special for Taraji P. Henson this year. It was the day her former football player boyfriend Kelvin Hayden popped the question. The 48-year-old actress kept their relationship on the low, only first confirming they were an item in December 2017. Now they’re wasting no time jumping the broom. She and Kelvin plan to tie the knot by the end of June or early July of 2019.
Mike Epps will be tying the knot again soon after ending his 11-year marriage to Mechelle Epps in September 2017. The 48-year-old comedian popped the question to OWN producer Kyra Robinson in May of this year and he’s called the beauty his “crush 4 life!!”
Former Bad Girls Club star Tanisha Thomas welcomed her first child in March of this year, and one mother later the father of her child, boyfriend Carey St. Hilaire, popped the question. The marriage will be Tanisha’s second; she and ex-husband Clive Muir appeared on Marriage Boot Camp‘s first season in 2014.
Juelz Santana may have taken close to two decades to pop the question to longtime girlfriend Kimbella Vanderhee, but the pair didn’t waste any time taking engagement photos once he did — that’s because they don’t have much time. The Dipset rapper proposed while awaiting sentencing on gun charges November 24 and by December 14, the mother of his two children shared their engagement photoshoot on the gram. Four days later, he was sentenced to 27 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release.
In the summer of 2016, Melanie Fiona and her longtime boyfriend Jared Cotter welcomed son Cameron Lincoln, and in February of this year Jared asked the singer to be his wife. The couple has been together since 2013 — with one breakup along the way — but it looks like they’re in it for the long haul now.
Toni Braxton’s relationship with Cash Money CEO Birdman was been very hush-hush, but there was no denying the massive ring shining on the singer’s ring finger earlier this year. Finally, in February, Toni confirmed she and Birdman are indeed engaged. And despite curious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of her engagement ring (it’s either been lost or stolen), the two seem to still be planning to tie the knot.
