Is Cardi B Standing With Kap Or Does She Only Care About Her Superbowl Coins?
Travis Scott has allegedly signed on to grace the upcoming Superbowl Half Time Show performance with pop band Maroon 5, although hip-hop legends such as Jay-Z are advising him not to do so. Rihanna, Usher and Cardi B are a few other artist who are rumored to have been tapped for the opportunity but refused in response to the NFL’s treatment of player Colin Kaepernick due to his silent protest against racial profiling and police brutality that involved him kneeling during the National Anthem.
However, a source tells Page Six that not all of the artists refusing to perform are down for the cause as much as they are concerned about their coins. The source alleges that when Cardi B’s main reason for turning down the invitation to perform, is because the NFL refused to accommodate her extravagant demands. Although artists aren’t exactly paid to appear, the NFL does offer a “gift In kind” to performers to cover expenses such as production, transport and wardrobe. Cardi B allegedly demanded $1 million to perform plus a solo spot apart from Maroon 5. The source implies that if the “Money” artist’s demands were met, she’d be twerking all over the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta:
“Cardi B is standing tough and holding out. She doesn’t want to do it unless they roll out the red carpet for her.”
However other sources says that Cardi B isn’t just making money moves and is sincerely refusing to perform based on her support for the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback. Earlier this year Cardi shared she would only be performing under one circumstance: “when they hire Colin Kaepernick back.”
A rep for Cardi B confirmed with Page Six that the artist who was recently vacationing in Puerto Rico with her child’s father is booked, busy and unbothered with any kind of Superbowl deal:
“The rumor circulating that she wants a million dollars and she wants her own set is false. There was never a firm offer to begin with for a performance. There [were] talks about it, but she was not particularly interested in participating because of how she feels about Colin Kaepernick and the whole movement . . . But again, there was never a solid offer for her to say yes or no to regarding the Super Bowl. She is already confirmed to do a set with Bruno Mars that weekend.”
