Whatever you’re gunning for in 2019, we want to see you get it sis, but we know how difficult it can be to stay disciplined once the resolution planning is over and you find yourself tempted by old routines. Trying something new or vowing to stop doing something old is never easy. And they can say all they want to say about it taking 21 days to make something a habit because few of us actually make it past mid-February when it comes to our New Year’s goals.
But that doesn’t have to be true for 2019. Whether you’ve already written your resolutions or are taking the time to do so today, check out our advice for sticking to your goals and getting everything you want and deserve this year.

This is arguably the main reason why many New Year’s resolutions fail so quickly. In order to successfully achieve something, you have to be realistic in your expectations.
Whether it be weight loss, saving money, transitioning to a new career, etc., you must be real with yourself. Don’t expect to conquer your resolutions in their entirety within a 30-day or less period of time. Instead, understand that slow and steady is often the best way to realistically reach your goals.
Make Your Resolutions Fit Your Lifestyle
If you are a busy single mom, a fierce boss lady or have a large family that needs your constant attention, you need to take your lifestyle into consideration when making your resolutions.
The best way to do this is to sit down and write out what you want to achieve and your daily schedule. If you notice that there is little to no time left over for you to complete your goals, you need to modify them so they make sense for life.
Many people think that the faster you complete a task or achieve a goal, it means that speed always wins the race. That’s not true at all, in fact some of the most difficult things to conquer happened because of the slow and steady approach.
Pacing yourself is important. Don’t start so fast out of the gate with your resolutions because you are more likely to crash and burn faster, throwing all your progress off track. Instead, take things one day at a time.
Set Yourself Up For Success
In order to be successful you first have to set yourself up for it. In the case of New Year’s resolutions, if you know there are certain things you need to do before you can actually get to your resolutions, like talking to your boss about altering your work schedule so you can take evening classes, or establishing a budget so you can pay off that student loan, the time to do it is now.
Don’t wait until you’re in the thick of things to realize that your progress would be going much better if you prepared yourself for success from the very start.
Organization is key. It doesn’t matter what it is you’re trying to accomplish, you’ll have a better outcome if you organize beforehand.
Writing things down, creating a vision board and removing unnecessary things from your life, are some of the best ways to get organized and tackle your New Year’s resolutions head on.
Drown Out Negativity
Unfortunately, not everyone will be on board to cheer you on as you strive to tackle your New Year’s resolutions. If this is the case for you, don’t worry, all you have to do is ignore them.
Drown out the negativity the naysayers bring and continue to conquer your goals. You need all the support you can get during this time, so limiting your contact with them may be best for your progress.
Don’t Let Failure Stop Your Progress
Failure is a natural process of life and some of the most successful people in the world have failed more than once.
When you stumble or fail on your quest to complete your resolutions, it’s crucial that you don’t let it get you down or stop your progress completely. Instead, use it as fuel to go even harder and commit to following through no matter how many times you have to restart.
Round Up A Support System
Having a solid support system around you at all times is very important, but it’s especially necessary when you are attempting to achieve something new.
Gather up the people around you who always support you no matter what, and lean on them when you’ve reached a roadblock in your resolutions progress. You can also call on them when you want to celebrate finishing a particular milestone.
Celebrate The Small Victories
All victories deserve to be celebrated regardless of how small or large they are. When you are in the process of checking off your completed resolutions one-by-one, it’s beneficial to celebrate those small wins that get you closer to the ultimate goal.
This is also a practice of looking at the positives in life instead of operating from a negative place because you are celebrating an accomplishment regardless of size.
Believe In Yourself
That’s all it really takes to start a resolution and see it through to completion…belief. Just believing that you can do it goes a long way on your road to it actually becoming a reality.
Block out everything else and simply believe that you can do anything you put your mind to.
