Wendy Williams is going through some health issues again.
Williams missed Monday’s taping of her eponymous talk show, and fans definitely noticed.
The 54-year-old revealed on Tuesday’s episode that she actually suffered a stress fracture (or a tiny crack) on Sunday and was in so much pain by Monday morning that she had to bail on the live taping and opt for a rerun. She sat in front of the audience with her arm in a sling inside of her sweater, which made for an interesting look. She didn’t reveal what may have caused the fracture, but they’re often the result of repetitive stress or force.
“I have a hair fracture on my right shoulder,” she said. “And I did it on Sunday. And by Monday morning, my shoulder was on fire. There’s no way I could have done yesterday’s show. I was all about the medical care yesterday, from one doctor to the other. So I’m on the mend. I don’t need an operation. They tell me I’m very healthy for, um … a person after 50. I don’t need an operation, and I’m not wearing a hard cast. But I do have a sling. Staff, crew, the show will go on!”
It’s been a rough year and some change for Wendy Williams in terms of her health. She fainted live on her show on Halloween in 2017, and earlier this year, she had to go on hiatus for three weeks to deal with her hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease issues.
She told Good Morning America that focusing on work and tending to the needs of everyone but herself caused her body to turn against her. She said she knew she was having health issues since last July before they came to a head this spring.
“In the entire almost 10 years of doing the show, I have never taken a sick day,” Williams said in March. “It was a perfect storm — a perfect storm that had been brewing, I have to say, internally, knowing my body, since late July.”
Still, fans have had questions since she returned about how she’s feeling. If she sits instead of walking in to start the show, Wendy watchers worry. But despite her health ups and downs, which have played out publicly, she wants people to know she’s just fine.
“If there was one thing that I could request from my Wendy watchers, please don’t ask me how I feel,” she said on GMA in March. “When I see you in the grocery store, when I see you in the streets, please don’t ask me how I feel with the woo-woo-woo and the puppy eyes. … Nobody likes a pity party.”
