Actress, Comedienne And Now Author: Yvonne Orji Of ‘Insecure’ Lands Book Deal
There’s nothing insecure about actress Yvonne Orji’s hustle. The 35-year-old actress/comedienne who plays Issa’s ride-or-die “Molly” on HBO’s Insecure had a phenomenal 2018 that included headlining the New York Comedy Festival, developing her own semi-autobiographical series First Gen, co-starring along comedy champions Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish on the big screen in Night School and hosting the podcast Jesus and Jollof with fellow Nigerian and author Luvvie Ajayi.
In her latest career move, Orji is proving she’s every bit of a hustler as her character “Molly” with recently adding the title of author to her resume. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Orji has landed a book deal with Flatiron Books to release Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me Into the Life of My Dreams (and 20 Lessons I Learned Along the Way). The book which doesn’t yet have a release date will interpret biblical stories and metaphors to fit into current times. Orji has always been outspoken about her faith often sharing how her beliefs have affected both her personal and professional choices. Orji has repeatedly spoke openly about the fact that she’s a virgin and that prayer is what she believes brought boyfriend Emmanuel Acho into her life.
Orji describes the book as a “frank and fresh advice book” filled with 20 life lessons she’s been taught through her own experiences, the teachings of the Bible and words from her family and friends. Tales in the book include “from how to save for a rainy day to building the ark before the flood, from thinking outside the box to realizing you’re not special (while instead making yourself available).”
We can’t think of a better person to mix in a little Jesus with the jokes while uplifting and empowering women. We’ll be sure to add Bamboozled By Jesus… to our book club lists in the new year.
