When we think about the risks of giving money to people on the street, we think about the fact that the person may use the money to fund some type of addiction. Rarely do we think our generosity could result in death. But that’s what happened to one woman in Baltimore.
According to The Baltimore Sun, on December 1, Jacquelyn Smith saw a woman holding a baby with a sign that read, “Please Help me feed my Baby.” Smith was a passenger in the car along with other family members, including her husband and stepdaughter. The group had just left a family gathering.
Smith rolled down her window to donate and handed some money to the woman. Afterward, a man approached the car to presumably thank her. But instead, he reached into the vehicle attempting to take her wallet. Smith and the man struggled and the man took out a knife, fatally stabbing her.
“Detectives did talk to the two family members who were in the car. Certainly, we can all imagine how distraught they were after witnessing something like that. Right now, we just hope someone in the community will come forward.”
Smith was transported to the hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries.
Police are looking for a Black man about 30-years-old, 6-feet-tall with a goatee.
