Whether you were reciting the lyrics to “Drip” word for word, were being blown away by her baby bump reveal during her SNL performance or stared in disbelief at her Instagram videos defending herself from fellow rap artist Nicki Minaj, you can say a lot about Cardi but you can’t say she isn’t entertaining. Entertainment Weekly came to consensus with the Bardi Gang and officially named the “Bodak Yellow” artist as Entertainer of the Year.
In 2018 alone Cardi topped the Billboard charts repeatedly with her debut album “Invasion of Privacy”. Her FashionNova collection sold out twice, she collaborated with Tom Ford for a beauty collection and in addition to the multiple deals she landed she got married and started a family with boyfriend Offset from rap group Migos.
On one of two covers (both styled by Kollin Carter), Cardi is giving fans Marilyn Monroe-realness bejeweled in her famous best friends from head to toe in a blinged out dress by Middle Eastern designer Khosla Jani with diamonds and pearls from New York Vintage. In a second cover photo she channels legendary singer Josephine Baker in a black velvet cut-out gown by Stello, with matching gloves and gold jewelry from New York Vintage. Her hair is slicked down as she caresses a vintage microphone.
In the feature article she shares that although 2018 had it’s share of life-changing moments, the two she treasures the most are giving birth to her daughter Kulture Kiari in July and giving an amazing performance at the American Music Awards in October. She says the performance was the first she had done since giving birth and her opportunity to prove that she isn’t just some reality star trying to outrun her fifteen minutes of fame. She wanted to show fans that she is working hard for her success:
“It was my first big performance on television after giving birth, and I just wanted people to see that I’m working my ass off.”
“The rehearsals were long days and I had bruises on my body, but it came out so perfect. It was worth it.”
She’s already heard that Mariah Carey is looking to collaborate so we’d say her 2019 is already off to an incredible start. All we ask is that she share some of that winner energy with all of us. In the mean time Cardi is working on her vision board and already has her sights on what’s next:
“I’m looking forward to doing anything and everything that I could possibly take on.”
“The only thing that’ll stop me right now is time.”
You can pick up the issue on newsstands now to see Cardi come through drippin’ on not one but two covers.
