Every year as the temperature drops, we switch out our breezy summer fabrics and sandals for thick wools and boots. We swap our makeup routines, exchanging bright lippies for vampy shades, and we may even trade fruity and floral fragrances for musky scents. Seasonal change is nothing new, but somehow, we drop the ball on haircare!

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! That’s the attitude so many of us have when it comes to our hair regimens. Hell—it’s taken some of us years to find a routine that works, and we’re not really trying to shake things up. I’m guilty as charged on this one, but through the years of being natural I’ve learned the importance of adapting your haircare to the changing seasons.

Natural hair is inherently dry, and as it gets colder outside, curly and kinky hair types cry out for even more moisture and protection. During the summer months while we flourish and flaunt our twist-outs and wash n go’s, we also expose our strands to damage from the sun. Just like your skin, hair needs to be protected from natural wear and tear during the hotter months. As we transition into fall and winter, it’s time to get on the offense to repair damage, combat dryness, and restore your hair to its former glory.

Check out these 5 tips for boosting your winter haircare!
