Alongside her in the producer’s chair is John Legend, who is also producing the film under his Get Lifted Film Company, Variety reports.
Le Brio follows the forced relationship between a prejudiced professor who has to coach a young, French-Arab girl from a low-income community for an annual speech contest. The contest is what brought them together, but the focus of the film is how their different social and ethnic backgrounds influence the dynamics of their relationship.
“With Get Lifted Film Company’s great creative input, the remake will have more of a political bend than the French film to reflect the current tense climate and race relations in U.S.,” co-producer Dimitri Rassam said in a statement.“Ultimately, the film will show how sharing knowledge can help build bridges between people from different generations and backgrounds, as well as help people overcome their own prejudices and anger.”
A director has not been assigned to the film yet, as it is still in its early stages of development. Shooting is slated to begin next year.
