Toya Wright Doesn’t Want Her Daughter Reginae To Date Rappers
Antonia “Toya” Wright dishes out some serious mama advice to her daughter Reginae in a new clip of T.I & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle.
The mother and daughter duo who are fairly close, hash out their thoughts about dating with Toya showing concern over Reginae’s new relationship with twenty-seven-year-old rapper, YFN Lucci. The exclusive clip was first obtained by Page Six.
“I really like him. He’s sweet and livin’ life. Living our best life,'” Reginae reveals.
While Toya, 34, definitely understands the prospect of first love–she began dating Reginae’s father, rapper Lil Wayne, at 15, she clearly harbors hesitation over the nine year age gap between Reginae, 18 and Lucci.
The Atlanta based rapper, whose real name is Rashawn Bennett, and Reginae went public with their relationship earlier this year.
“I don’t like the age difference,” Wright says in return. “I don’t like the fact that he have four kids because I mean you trying to be stepmom, honey?”
Reginae takes a moment to explain to her mother that that’s not the case at this point in their relationship, but Toya believes she knows best because she’s lived it.
“You know how I feel about that whole rapper thing,” she continued. “I dated your daddy when I was younger than that and there’s a whole lot that comes with that lifestyle. And that’s the last thing I want or any mother want.”
Toya then cautions her daughter about being at a man’s beck and call and also warns her about letting things outside of her control taint her image.
But Reginae says all she really wants to do is have fun in her relationship and adds that she’s the one who initiates traveling whenever her man leaves town.
“I’m telling you that your butt doesn’t need to be everywhere this man goes. I used to go out of town with your daddy. I [went] to all these after parties and stuff, concerts, back to the hotel,” Wright explained.
Reginae says she not like her “boring” mother and will continue to make her own decisions. It’s definitely a conversation that many mothers and daughters can relate to.
