K. Michelle Felt ‘Trapped’ While Working And Living With R. Kelly
K. Michelle has been very open about the trials and tribulations of her rocky career. From the abuse she suffered at the hands of Memphitz to her butt implants that she recently had removed, the Love & Hip-Hop star has been an open book. She has always credited R, Kelly with being one of her mentors but she never spoke about the ugly side of working with him, until now.
On TV One’s Uncensored, the Memphis songstress said she felt trapped while living with R. Kelly and working on music. She said she was forbidden to see her family, similar to what many of the women who have spoken out about being in his cult have said. Even though she knew something wasn’t right, she feared that if she left she was not going to jumpstart her career.
“Being in that house offered its own set of dysfunctional issues for me,” she said. “I remember feeling trapped. If I leave this house, I’m never going to sing.”
She credited Kelly with helping her get her first record deal because he would describe her to record execs as the “female version” of him.
Once she left his home, he told her no one would never want to work with her, in true abuser fashion. Once K. Michelle left, she said they no longer had any contact.
Uncensored airs tomorrow (Oct. 14th) at 10 p.m ET/9 p.m CT on TV One. Watch the clip below.
