Are We The Only Ones Who Think It’s Crazy People Confuse Actress Michelle Williams With The Destiny’s Child Singer?
It’s very easy to tell Michelle Williams the singer apart from the actress, Michelle Williams. One is Black, one is white. One is from Destiny’s Child, the other is from Dawson’s Creek. But they do have the same name, the same age, and they gained fame around a similar time. Not to mention, certain search engines, like Google and Getty images, will show you one when you’re looking for the other. In fact, as pointed out by the Huffington Post, if you type in “Destiny’s Child original members” (which Williams actually isn’t a part of), a picture of the actress pops up. It’s pretty hilarious, and the actress actually has no problem with it.
“It gets me one step closer to Beyoncé, so I’m pretty good with it,” she joked with the Huffington Post. “Now I’ll have an ice breaker if I ever get to meet Beyoncé. I’ll talk to her about the old days of Destiny’s Child. So thank you because I’ll obviously be tongue-tied if and when that ever happens, and now I’ll know exactly what to say.”
But the 38-year-old Venom star admitted it’s not just Google who confuses her for the singer. She’s actually gone out and had people mistake her for her name twin.
“My daughter is an enormous Stevie Wonder fan, and we went to a Stevie Wonder concert,” she said, “and when I was in line to pick up our tickets, the guy said, ‘No, you’re not,’ and I said, ‘I am. I’m Michelle Williams,’ and he said, ‘No, you’re not.’ And I said, ‘I really am.’ I showed him my ID, and he said, ‘Oh, that Michelle Williams. I just assumed that it was gonna be … Oh cool. What?'”
In 2016, the singer was also mistaken for the actress, and she made light of the confusion. An editor for DeJour magazine attempted to tweet her congratulations to the actress for receiving a Sag Awards nomination for her work in Manchester by the Sea, but accidentally tagged the singer. The Destiny’s Child star responded by saying, “‘I’m the ‘other’ Michelle Williams but congrats to Michelle Williams!'”
Glad they both have a good sense of humor about it all. For the record though, the singer’s real name actually isn’t Michelle — it’s Tenitra. The more you know!
