R. Kelly’s Brother Says Singer Sexually Abused 14-Year-Old Cousin
R. Kelly’s brother Carey Kelly made a startling claim in a recent, explosive, interview with Atlanta-based entertainment blogger, Tasha K.
Carey is currently promoting his new audio book, Walk A Mile In My Shoes, where he makes several accusations about his estranged brother, one of which accuses the singer of sexually molesting a 14-year-old cousin.
R. Kelly is in the middle of a federal investigation where he’s accused of leading a sex cult–culminating in numerous women who have come forward to corroborate the claims. Kelly’s former wife Andrea Kelly, has also revealed that she suffered abuse at the hands of the singer. In 2008, Kelly was found not guilty in a very public child pornography case.
Leading up to the conversation Carey said he had no ill-will towards his brother but wanted to set the record straight. He said that after many years of silence, he wished to shed light on his brother, including the singer’s downward spiral after the court case in 2008, the death of their mother in Joanne Kelly in 1993, and Aaliyah in 2001. Kelly and the Aaliyah were secretly married in 1994 when she was 15-years-old, while Kelly was 27. Their marriage was annulled less than a year later in 1995.
Carey said the alleged incident happened at a time when the family was in the midst of turmoil. Carey alleged his brother hired family members to clean his home and would take the young girl into his room.
The troublesome details begin at the 40:00 mark.
It’s something that the family kind of figured out and I’d really like for her to tell her story, I really do. If she would speak on it,” he said.
Tasha inquired further about rumors which alleged the cousin was impregnated by the singer. Carey said he could not confirm whether or not the baby is actually his brother’s, but did confirm she had a child at 17. “I can’t say…there hasn’t been any DNA for anything done,” he said.
Carey said that many family members did not believe the accusation because of Kelly’s widespread fame.
“That’s how he’s been able to sustain in this business as an artist and as human being not being locked away and put up in jail because it’s almost hard to believe that this icon, that this superstar, would do things of that nature,” he said.
Both Carey and Robert have said they were victims of sexual abuse from an unnamed family member. Carey revealed that the alleged cousin who his brother touched is related to the family member who sexually abused the Kelly’s.
“Everybody deals with things differently,” Carey said.
Carey also said that he would assist the FBI in the investigation if he were contacted and/or approached. The interview is not the first time Carey has come forward to make allegations against his brother. In August, After R. Kelly released the 19 minute eyebrow raising track I Admit, where he openly talked about his struggles with sex addiction and illiteracy, Carey claimed the singer had numerous sexual encounters with men and also accused him of spreading STD’s in a lengthy clapback, I Confess.
