Birthday Girl Misty Copeland Dips Her Pointed Toe In Design Again For Fall/Winter “Signature Collection” Line
Back in May, Misty Copeland, principal ballerina for the American Ballet Theatre, debuted her first activewear and athleisure collection for Under Armour, entitled, the Misty Copeland Signature Collection. After success with that spring/summer line, the 36-year-old, whose birthday just happens to be today, dropped the fall/winter collection, which continues to offer women options for both in the gym and on the streets.
This line, according to the company, was about providing pieces that would help to accentuate and celebrate the strength of the bodies of women. The pieces are structured, showing off powerful shoulders, while also emphasizing femininity through the small details, including a lot of use of lace, beautiful seasonal colors and embroidery. The result is a collection that Copeland describes as “feminine and edgy” and that is about “showing off the female figure.”
“This collection is about being able to mix it up and not having just one look. That’s who we are as women,” said Copeland. “We have so many sides to us and it’s nice to have that balance and not to be told you have to be one way or another.”
She played a big part in helping to design the collection, and the hope was for women to not only be comfortable in the chic pieces, but to also feel strong and sexy in them as well. The more confident women are in the pieces, the less barriers there will be in the way to actually feeling good while making their health and fitness a priority.
Under Armour incorporated their classic technology into every piece in the collection, including their UA Breathelux fabric that provides sweat-wicking fabric for optimal performance. The Misty Copeland Signature Collection includes crop tops, a bomber, some functional leggings, a dress, sweaters, tanks and more. The collection ranges in price from $50-$180 and is available now through the Under Armour website.
